Hello everyone,

I have been monitoring the new site performance several times per day since it came up. Almost all the time, it seems to be quite fast, performing acceptably. Very intermittantly, but it seems to be more often between 8:30 AM and 9:30 AM PDT I find the site performing so slowly as to be unusable. Sometimes I get "connection refused", sometimes just very slow. But by the time I can get a hold of the hosting company to tell them about it, the problem is gone. It seems to last less than five minutes.

Is anyone else experiencing similar problems? If so, what time of day, where are you located, and who is your ISP? If you could respond to this thread, or send me an email at kevin@337skymaster.com, and let me know each time you have a problem, it would let me know the magnitude of the problem, if there even is one. If there is, I can experiment with moving the site to another host...

Please let me know.

Thanks,

Kevin

This site works well for me, I'm in the eastern time zone, and I work nights, so I'm usually on during the traditional "lull" times. Are there any plans to activate the avatar function? I use that on another board with this same format. Does it use too much bandwidth?

Nice picture. Would you mind if I used it elsewhere on the site?

Avatars, for anyone else like me who didn't know, are small pictures or graphics associated with the author of a message. No, I was not concerned as much with bandwidth as screen space. The boards that I have seen with avatars have longer threads for the same amount of text. If you post a message that says "Thanks Joe", it still uses up about a 1/4 to a 1/3 of an 800x600 screen (the whole site is designed for that screen size, even tho many folks have larger).

Anyway, I think I will copy your message and this message into another thread, see if there are others who want avatars...or don't...

Thanks for your comments.

The speed of new site at my end is fine. I have DSL which is fast & no problems getting in all parts of site. I like the great photos & all the new stuff. Which I could have been there at TCay with all you. Maybe next time. Dale

Thanks for all your replies. I caught the site in the act last night. The outages are very brief, seem like 5 - 10 minutes, either no response or Connection refused. I ran a trace, showed the packets are getting all the way to the server at normal speed, just a minor server problem. It is nice that it seems nobody else is experiencing this, or if they are they just figure it's the web, check back again in a few minutes. Anyway, I will try to get it fixed, but if it happens to you, please just give the site 10 minutes and try again...

No problem in Oklahoma City, I do have cable, maybe that makes a difference.

It's still working, after all this time.
There have been upgrades, and we are burning through about about 1.6 GB of data. We're seeing about 5.1 MB of traffic a month.

You'll notice some names on this response, FRED-E, Bob Cook, Kevin, and these are people who were instrumental in the early days. Fred, of course, is gone, Kevin is pursuing other ventures, and I haven't heard from Bob Cook in a long time. I know his airplane is for sale.

I switch from DSL to Com Cast Cable and the speed is much faster. The site at this end is very fast with little or no problems. Dale
