RFD May 1 Fly-In
Courtesy Aircraft ( http://www.courtesyaircraft.com/ ) at RFD and EAA 22 is holding a fly-in May 1, Sunday. I am thinking of attending. Anyone else? Herb, if you attend, we could sit in another A-26 :D

RDF
Larry, sounds like a plan....What time you leaving?
Jerry N34EC |
I'm thinking 0800, out of here, get me there about 0800 local. It may be IFR day here, but supposed to be not bad there.
|
Larry:
I will plan on being there. It will be nice to meet some of you guys after all this time. Mark |
flyin
Hey Mark, Larry and I flew to Rockford this morning, did you ever make it there?
Jerry |
Jerry:
Are either one of you "37KC"? I got to Rockford about 11:oo, and heard 37KC departing as I was approaching. It's tough getting teenagers up and about on the weekend. Sorry I missed you guys. Mark |
Larry's plane
Yes, 37KC is Larry's plane. I flew with him today because my plane is in for new engine.
Jerry |
Sorry I missed the plan on this one. I haven't been on the board for a week. I went to Freemont 3FM for the Blessing of the Planes. Real bumping ride but it did keep the weekenders on the ground. Not much happening up there today.
How was Rockford? Do they still have the A26? I talked with the guy that has the 0-2 for sale in San Antonio a few weeks ago. Nice plane, would be great for fly ins and airshows. Anyone interested? I'm not much for partnerships but it would be hard to justify by myself. |
Rockford was really great. We didn't have any bumpy stuff until we returned. a little ice, but other than that just a great time. good place to get fuel was at Pride aircraft. Nice folks. It is hard to imagine the size of some of these aircraft until you are up next to them. They had a TBM, the kind of plane George Bush Sr flew, and it was immense.
The A-26 they had needed some work, but it was a very cool plane. |
What?
Did I read that Jerry D is actually changing an engine out?
Jerry, couldn't you get an extra 300-400 hours out of that engine? :-> Keven ________ Daihatsu hijet |
Engine
Hey Keven,
Yes! I would have except I purchased an accessory assembly from a company that I was told was good and after 30 hours of flight time, it came apart and sent metal throughout the engine. I will not mention the company here, but be very careful who you buy parts from. As such, I will not be making the Florida meeting. Looks like I will be down 4 to 6 weeks. Shame about it is the on that engine all compressions were in the 70's. It was a good strong engine that I just put a rebuilt yellow tagged turbo on. Jerry |
Larry, sound like fun. I had a good friend in Idaho TWF that restored TBM's. They are big ol' ugly birds. Never did get a ride in one but I did fly his SNJ which was fully restored. Very easy to fly.
Jerry, I don't think I'm going to make Florida either WORK WORK WORK. I might make a weekend fly in or something though if you're interested in a ride. Maybe just go to JXN for breadfast. Sorry to hear about the powerplant. |
Breakfast, especially on a Sunday, sounds like a plan. Maybe we can have a formation of 2
I was just amazed at the size of the TBM. It was huge. The A-26, however, remains the apple of my eye :D :D I think that Jerry is in this picture http://www.courtesyaircraft.com/imag...angar1_lrg.jpg http://www.courtesyaircraft.com/default.htm |
This year, the fly-in is on May 6, 2007.
Looks like another great event. It's a long way off, but I thought I would mention it. http://www.courtesyaircraft.com/ scroll down to see the event. |
Jerry, just curious: if you can share, what assembly did you install that came apart? If you'd rather not say, that's OK.

Jim:
Just wanted to mention that Jerry's comments about a failed assembly that sent metal throughout his engine and would cause him to miss the Skymaster Fly-in is about two years old. This thread lay dormant from May 2005, when Jerry wrote about his engine woes, to this month, when Larry Bowdish announced this year's EAA Chapter 22 Fly-In for May 6, 2007 in Rockford, IL. Ernie |
It sort of made sense to me to re-cycle the old posting about Rockford, rather than start another.
The fly in at Courtesy Aircraft is huge, is a lot of fun, and a great way to spend a morning. |
I agree, Larry. It was a good idea. Except that at least one person wondered how come Jerry was listed in the agenda for the 2007 Fly-in when the RFD thread suggested that his damaged engine wouldn't allow him to make the Skymaster Fly-in. It was hard to see that Jerry's message dated from May 2005 and that he was referring to the 2005 Fly-in in Key West.

Assy
Hi Jim,
It was the top accessory assy. Purchased it from a Tenn. supplier and it lasted about 20 hours. Showered metal throughout the engine. Are you having a similar problem? Jerry |
No, Jerry, but really wanted to avoid it by being careful of what assembly I might buy - especially in my home State - TN! Thanks.
