337 Michigan Flyers are in the planning stages of our next video production. If anyone in the region is interested in being a part of the new video for the Bahamas fly in please let us know and come join us. We will normally fly weekends and have 3 to 4 cameras in the air and on the ground. It is really a lot of fun and you can be featured on the new video. If you would like to see the current video production you can get a taste of it on GOOGLEVIDEO.COM
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...79&q=skymaster If you like what you see then you will really like it on your big screen playing on your DVD player. The DVD has 4 different shows on it and cost $10. All proceeds go to SOAPA for the Fly In. How can you beat a deal like that. N34EC featured in the current DVD available from the webmaster. |
As you've read in the "new" Home page, we're seeking pictures of members' aircraft to include on the web site. May I have Herb's and Jerry's OK to post one of these pics on the Home page?

Nice air to air photography guys! I particularly like slowing the shutter speed down so that it does not stop the prop.
Kevin was discouraging the extensive use of photos. I, for one, would like to see much greater use of photography on this site. Whether air to air, air to ground, interiors, exteriors, panels, home field, custom hangars, personal portraits, maintenance issues with exposed engines/airframes, failed parts, etc. Would our co-webmasters comment on whether this is now possible? |
Kevin is no longer the webmaster, but we're still subject to some limits on the size of our site. However, we welcome pictures. On the Message Board we prefer that the pictures be downsized to about 600 pixels along their longest dimension and that they be in JPEG/JPG format.
Ernie Martin (Webmaster along with Larry Bowdish) |
It is still an issue, only from disk space allowed.
This site is hosted on a commercial service, and more disk space simply costs more money. We pay for a certain amount of disk space, and bandwidth. If we exceed those limits, we end up paying more. For the forseeable future, video on this site is out. Video consumes a huge amount of bandwidth, and disk space. It is far more practical to upload video to Google Video, than to host it here. |
Please feel free to use these on the Home page. I'll collect my royalties later ............:-)
I don't think Jerry will mind, besides he is in Beijing right now anyway. He hasn't even seen this yet. Are you out there Jerry? Hows the chow over there? Try any 100 year old eggs? I can e mail larger format if needed. Larry has some Photo Art that I compiled. Maybe we can get one of those up too. |
I have a little more information for those who are curious. The hosting company has assinged us or 1000 MB of disk space. Of the allowed 1000 MB, we have about 407 MB in use. They also assigned us 20GB of traffic, each month. Of the 20 GB, we have use 1.9 GB, so far this month. The month is not a calendar month, it is a billing cycle month, which I think ends on the 25 of each month.
As you can see, we have lots of room for pictures. |

I asked an independent group of folks what they thought about your pictures, and this is what they said.

The Michigan Flyers trip home was a little "eventful". Who would thought that you would have to make a single engine landing in Georgia. The fire trucks were ready but we didn't need them. Jerry did a fine job getting us on the ground safely and returning us home that same day. Amazing! I will let Jerry tell the details.

eventfull
Rear engine more than 2500 hours. Two new cylinders only 200 hours. Yep, you guessed it. No 4 cylinder with only 200 hours decided to make the trip interesting. What happened was one of the studs that hold the rocker assembly together broke and put a hold in the valve cover. Little bit of an oil bath over the elevator but all turned out pretty good. Now this is really a one in a million event. Here's why!
As we we preparing to land at Jefferson - Jackson County (19A) we were passing through 4,000 feet for straight in approach on Rway 34. Nice clear day, you know one of those days you can see for ever. Well, off the right wing was Rway 9 at Athens/Ben Epps (AHN) Herb was sitting in the back seat, Larry copilot when Herb said what is that noise? We found out real quick when oil pressure started to drop. Knowing that 19A was a small airport without much of a maint. crew we informed Atlanta ATC that we are experiencing an engine problem and request landing any runway at AHN. Boy they were good! Got clearance and contacted AHN tower that directed me to land Rway 9. He then proceeded to clear the traffic for us. The whole thing took only about 5 to 8 minutes and we were on the ground. The fire engines started to approach us but I informed the tower it was not necessary. We taxi up to the terminal, shut the front engine off (I shut the back engine down when I was on final to 9. We took the left cowl off and it didn't take long to see the hole in the valve cover. I then took the valve cover off (I always carry tools with me) and that's when we found the broken stud. All else seemed pretty good. I asked if there was a mechanic on duty and was told yes. I went over to meet him (Iwill post both his name and business name when I find his business card). He came over with a tow tractor and we towed the plane to his hangar. Now for the good part! Of course he didn't have the studs, gasket and valve cover in stock...who will? but....his friend has a skymaster on the airport and he called him and got the okay to strip the needed parts off his plane. Wow...a few hours later we were winging our way back to Michigan. Total cost..$215. Now is that luck or what? Jerry N34EC |
seems like this is almost common, happen to me a few years back. right rear last cyl.
stud pulled out (no big deal just makes a-hell of a lot of noise) |
This looks interesting for the weekend.

A Bit of Bad News
Hi Guys,
Remember early this spring I told you guys I would like to meet up with you for a photo shoot. Well I never made it and do not think it will happen this year. My wife was told she has AML Acute Myloid Luekemia. We have been staying at the Hershey Canser Hope House in Pa. so she can be treated at Hershey Medical Center. I hope we can make it next spring. Dale Campbell |
Dale,
I know I speak for everyone when I tell you that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your wife. We are all saddened by this, and please provide updates on her condition, as you see fit. I understand the Hershey Clinic is an excellent facility. If you need anything along the way, please do not hesitate to ask. |
Dale Campbell
Thank you, Larry
I will keep you informed as soon as we finish this first week of Chemo. I have spent the last 7 days at her side in hospital from 7:00 am till 10: 30pm. Dale |

We went to Romeo, for the Peach Festival, our trademark fly-by, which was greatly appreciated, and they gave us pretty good parking. Breakfast was fabulous.
The only downside was that they didn't really understand Skymasters, and parked a gaggle of Ultralights behind Herb. Understandably, we moved Herb's plane before he started his engine, or we would have seen a bunch of pilotless ultralights turned into kites:D Sort of a UKV!! |

We went to 2H4 for their excellent lunch fly in last weekend. Here's our lead (Herb) landing.

"the michigan flyers" site looks phat; except a little low on content!
i know NO TIEMPO, NO TIEMPO!!!!! If anyone has a spare l/h strut gear door e-mail me. i need to fix the fat broad and get it back in the air. |
So True, Rick. I got latest greatest stuff to upgrade this place, and it's still zipped up.
Somebody I knew, had his mechanic make some gear door parts, from Cessna Drawings. He needed gear doors and parts, and that was the most expeditious method. |
can't wait to send you MY TIME AND TEMP BAR in a few months
