Honesty
 

Dear Sirs,
I wish to bring to all members attention a problem that has developed within our community of Skymaster enthusiasts.
Namely, paying for parts purchased from another member.
I agreed to sell my recently overhauled spare rear prop to John,
a337yahoo.com , for the sum of $5000.00 plus shipping.
As a show of good faith, or perhaps stupidity, I agreed to ship the prop upon receipt of $2500.00, with the remaining $2500.00 plus shipping costs of $350.00 to be sent once the prop had been received and inspected by the local prop shop.
Since aknowledging receipt of the prop at the begining of March this year, John has not replied to a single E-Mail or phone message. We operate in a very small community of 337 owners and enthusiasts and this type of behaviour can only lead to our mutual downfall. If any one knows John, or has a way to contact him directly, please do so. I do not relish the prospect of legal action against another Skymaster owner, but if this had occured outside of our group it would not have been tolerated this long.

This is TRULY sad news to hear, but under the circumstance of a failing economy, I'm afraid we're going to be seeing more of these kind of Carpetbagger tricks to deceive and short-change people. Even so-called bank 'Cashier's' checks have been known to be fraudulently placed into circulation, as well as washed money and checks.

Maybe we all need to get one of those Dick Tracy 'Truth Detectors' before we deal with the other guy. It's a sad commentary of our demented society who lust over other people's property on speculation.

Do you know the N number the prop was going to be installed on?

If you can trace him down or the tail number through the FAA, you can place a lien on the plane -- you'll be the first to get paid if he ever sells the plane. I believe the FAA has forms on their website. You should get that filed immediately to protect yourself.

If someone does know him and confronts him, I'm sure he'll have an excuse, like changed e-mail, hasn't checked e-mail, etc. I've heard thousands of lame excuses in my line of work.

If you shipped it directly to a prop shop, they would be a good place to start to hunt him down and to see if there were any problems with the prop, if he ever picked it up, or if there's another story.

If you don't have his phone number or address, there may be a means of finding him through his e-mail address, but typically that is a slow, painful process. If you kept a copy of the first check he sent you (if it was a personal check), you should have enough info to start legal action or at least hunt him down.

Skymaster owner or not, dishonest or incompetent business folks have no place in aviation circles, particularly circles as small as ours.

But of course, if you sue him, you'll be a sue happy litigant clogging up the courts with frivolous lawsuits. ;)

Dear Sirs,
Thanks for all the support.
I finally heard from Mr John Ambroult a few days ago with some vague tail about his having been out of the country etc etc.
After reminding him that we live in the 21st century band that it was effectively impossible to be out of reach for more than a few days, he tried the "but you didn't send the log book bit!
Well as the log book was my only salvation I am glad that I held onto it for a little insurrance.
Of course it was all my fault, which I am happy to concede as soon as I get the balance of my money!
I trully believe that this can only be viewed as an aberation amongst what is normally one of the most honest groups you are likely to come into contact with in aviation.
Anyway I have been promised a check within two weeks upon his return from "Overseas".
Will keep you all posted.
