Purchase of 337

I am interested in a 65 337 that is serial # 119 is there any reason to aviod the early production models?

My A&P knows Skymasters inside out, used to own a 1965 337 S/N 0032, and has worked in my old 337D and my current 337G. He says there are no flaws or problems in early models. They are essentially the same design. It's true that over the years Cessna made some changes, but these were more along the lines of modest improvements and not major changes to correct deficiencies.

Of course, a 1965 model is likely to have more wear and tear than a 1976 model, and you may want to scrutinize it carefully, but from a design viewpoint there seems to be no problems.

As the former owner of a 1965 337 (can't remember the serial number), let me heartily second Ernie's comments. There are no flaws in a '65 that might not be present in any pre-1973 337. Make sure the engines have been overhauled recently enough to get the heavy case (very likely). Other than that, a great airplane. Only downside that I can remember: lower gross weight that later (66+) models.
