Strut Fairing -Seal
 

Had my plane out on the west coast last week it rained, I noticed water dripping into the cargo pod from the belly. I resealed the cargo pod last year and know it’s water tight so I was investigating the source today.

I'm thinking it’s getting in there by the lower strut fairing where the control cables enter the fuselage.

Is there suppose to be a seal around the fairing ? Or some other way to mitigate water getting into there ?

Clear Duct Tape
 

Its a bit ghetto but work well. I use clear duct tape on my avionics bay cover and other parts of the aircraft when I'm trying to seal it up a bit.

I find it works well and your can't really see it easily.

I had my lower strut fairings off a few months ago at annual and there were no gaskets to seal off this area. I also don't see any in the parts manual.

Buy some adhesive foam weatherstrip, then remove the fairing and wrap the bottom portion of the strut with the weatherstrip, then replace the fairing onto the strut, with the weatherstrip under it, to create a seal under the fairing. Not perfect, but cheap and effective. :rolleyes:

Seem the gap on the left side one is quiet a bit larger than the right. I wonder if it was warped somehow too much heat etc.

going to find some sort of weather stripping I can wrap on the strut where the fairing would sit and squish it down closing the gap when its screwed on.

Ah the fun of being in a dry climate you only notice "issues" when not home.
