Member gone west.

It is my sad duty to inform you that a long time member and friend has passed away. Fred Emde (FRED-E) died last month from complications of his cancer treatment. Fred had been fighting colon cancer and was recovering well, but his heart just gave out. Fred was 73. He was a great mechanic, pilot and friend. Fred loved his old Skymaster and we spent many happy hours flying together. He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, two daughters, several grandchildren, and a couple of great grandchildren.

I will be assisting the family in the selling of his airplanes and associated items. I have spent several days sorting out parts, service manuals, tools and all the other “treasures” that have accumulated over his lifetime. As time goes by I will be posting these items and certainly asking for advice from the membership.

My complements on an outstanding forum. Having spent a little time lurking here I can see this is close knit bunch of Skymaster enthusiasts and I look forward to getting to know you all.

Sincerely
David Henry

David,
I am truly sorry to hear of Fred's passing. We met him when we had our fly-in at Oklahoma City. He arranged a tour of The Prop Shop.

He always struck me as a true and kind soul.

Plus a good mechanic, pilot, and contributor.

Please pass along my condolences to his family.

Thank you Larry for the kind words. I will certainly pass your comments on to his family.

At the Oklahoma meeting Fred was kind enough to give me a ride to and from Ada for the GAMI session. So I had the pleasure of spending a couple of hours with him. What a delightful person. We'll miss him.

Fred will be missed! He was gracious, kind, and refused to take himself too seriously. What a loss for our community.
