Flying in Paradise

The picture below is a montage, but it accurately reflects some of the flying Bob Cook and I often do. If we schedule a future fly-in in the Bahamas -- like the one we hosted last year in Treasure Cay -- you can join us.

It sure looks inviting...

Went to Freeport then on to Nassau after Sun and Fun back in 99. Up here in the North East we are having a cold spell. Went over to the hangar today and the darn lock on the door was even frozen... There is an inch or more of ice on the ramp except where I beat about a 10 foot swath into submission so if I dare take the bird out I will be able to get her back in the hangar. I am somewhat afraid I might slip and bust my butt or 2 faux hips on the ice. By hook or by crook I want to be some where warm next winter.... Guy, old72driver....

Hi Ernie,
You make me feel bad. I'am stuck up here in northern Penna. freezing my butt off. It is 5 degrees & 24" of snow on ground.
By the way I came through Miami draging my boat I left in Key Largo 5 weeks ago. I couldn't find a stc for trailer hitch on my 337H to pull it down, so I had to drive it there. I was going to look you up when I went through but it was a fast trip. I had to get back to take care of business. I will be at Nashville meeting.

Dale:

Looking forward to seeing you in Nashville. Use to ski at Blue Knob in your neck of the woods when I lived in DC from 68 to 87.

Well, Ernie, for those of us in the "northern tropics" I can only say it was very rude to post a picture like that! What are you trying to do, get us to commit hari-kari?

Bob Cook 01-15-03 05:39 PM

Paul

That was Cruel of Ernie ... I agree. We rarely talk about the weather because it is so boring. The temp never varies and the sun always shines. Even the water temp varies very little. The rum is always in abundance and so are the girls.

Again. we never talk about it since it is just "old news". We don't even talk about CNN since we never think about it. Sooo depressing.....

Ernie Martin 01-15-03 05:44 PM

You should know, Paul, that I considered that. In an e-mail to Bob Cook before posting, I asked whether posting this in the winter would be viewed as cruel and unusual punishment. We both agreed that there might be a bit of that, but we felt that as a come-on for a future fly-in in the Bahamas it was OK.

Counsel

Ernie,

It's clear that you and Bob are familiar with neither the U.S. Constitution nor criminal law, because that photo was without doubt cruel and unusual punishment to the less fortunate. :)

Where's my criminal counsel Mr. Hickman to confirm my legal opinion? Oh yea, nevermind, he's in the Yucatan Peninsula sunning himself.

It's nowhere NEAR that nice in the Carolinas right now. We're praying to stay in the 50s.

I do hope you're able to get to Nashville.

I'm going to try. I've already got a lot planned for that month, so I'm just waiting to see if it opens up for me.

Yeah, what is this stuff

KTMB 161453Z VRB03KT 8SM FEW040 19/15 A3024 RMK AO2 SLP239

Quite a discrepency between TMB, where Ernie keeps his plane, and GRR, where my plane is.
In fact, the temperature difference is 28 C. That's a lot. Hate to see what the difference is later on today, when TMB warms up to what, 25C, and if we're lucky, here it'll get up to -6C. UGH

You guys don't actually go outside when it is that cold, do you?

I feel better

It's 16F here in GRR, but in Miami, it's 37F. I bet we can handle the 16 a lot better than the folks in Miami can handle the 37:D :D
Is this Paradise Lost, or at least Paradise Cold:p

Ernie Martin 01-24-03 11:09 AM

Hey, Larry, it did get to around 40F, but at 4AM. When I took my 10 year old (Lauren) to school it was 50F and when I picked her up it was 60F. For us it's both delightful weather and a nice change of pace. Looking forward to seeing you and Kathryn in Nashville (I'm going solo).
