Oil Filter Adaptors Service Bulletin

Many of you may have these Oil Filter Adaptors on your engines. I have them on my engines. I have seen problems with these filter adaptors and have seen results of aircraft loosing all oil and making safe emergency landings. This is now a known issue and therefore this Service Bulletin has been released. Look it over closely to be sure the oil filter adaptors are performing correctly.

NTSB is researching this issue and will make some kind of recommendation to the FAA about these adaptors. Originally manufactured by F & M Industries but now owned by Stratus (Tempest)?

I have had no issues with mine since 2009 when I installed them. I will be looking at mine very closely to make sure they look correct.

Hi Herb....

My oil adapter on my newly overhauled front engine was the source of the leak we discussed the last time we spoke. I received the email from the FAA discussing this matter and then I forwarded it to my IA. The repair to my front engine adapter had been made just a day or two before the notice arrived in my inbox. My IA responded by saying, "my filter adapter was manufactured for Cessna by Continental Motors." He went on to say. "they have had some problems with thread damage on the adapter and in the engine piece that the adapter screws into and have an AD on certain ones but mine is not included in the AD."

So I guess to answer your question..., I'm not sure what I have other than what I just mentioned. I would also add, based on my recent experience with the adapter on my front engine, if they're leaking, you'll KNOW IT if one is paying any attention at all during preflight or simply looking down at the floor.

Take care,

Ed
