Engine O-H / FREM Cost

Hi Gang:

I did a search but didn't find a direct answer to this question: Is $30K (give or take) a good ballpark guess for putting zero time engines on a Skymaster? Not trying to start a long thread or plow old ground, just looking to understand what's a reasonable range of cost.

Thanks-
Ahab

Airpower O/H = 29,663 Warranty=12 months/500 hrs, 180 days after invoice
New = 35,427 Warranty=12 months/1000 hrs, 180 days after invoice

That is per engine, I assume. You couldn't do both engines for 30K, could you?

I think Ahab's inquiry was two engines for $30,000, but I agree that the the first reply seems to be for one engine. The new price seems way too low for two engines, but I'm confused because the overhaul price seems high for one engine and pretty aggressive for two engines.

So I contacted Certified Engines and got a quote of $21,500 ($24,800 with new cylinders) for one engine (including magnetos, harness, spark plugs, fuel injection system, fuel pump, starter, alternator, oil cooler, and a new logbook, but with the usual caveats, including a serviceable crankcase and VAR crank, warranty may be seen at www.certifiedengines.com). I think a $15,000 overhaul may be possible with a qualified mechanic (not a shop) and perhaps skipping some accessories (e.g., starter).

Nope Ernie, I just didn't phrase my question very clearly. I was asking in regard to $30K per engine, a figure I've heard bandied about here locally. It sounded just a tad high to me, hence my checking with you guys who have more experience with the airplane than I.

I would have been pleasantly surprised - amazed, maybe? - if both could be done for $30K.

Thanks for the responses.

Ahab
