Fuel Cap Kit - SK337-40C
 

Has anyone with a 1973 G model or later installed this kit? If so, could you post some photos with what the mod looks like with and without the cap installed? Are you satisfied with the modification's ability to keep water out of the fuel tanks?

Thanks for the reply Herb. I did see all these messages before I posted. I am hoping to find someone who has actually installed this kit on my particular model. I believe the fuel ports were different on the 1973 model years and later than pre 1973 models. Also hoping for feedback on how well it worked.

It's got whatever it had when I bought it (it's a '73). There is a small hole on the circular plate surrounding the cap which connects to a line which drains water out below the wing. A ridge on this circular plate inboard of the hole (i.e., between the hole and the cap) keeps water away from the cap, because it drains out the hole first. Of course, if the drain is blocked or the rain is so strong that it overwhelms the flow out the small hole, then water can get to the cap and only the rubber on the cap keeps the water out.

In Miami, despite torrential rains and with my airplane not hangared, it seems to work well. On rare occasions there is a little water.

Remember, the small drain tube that Ernie is referring to passes through the fuel tank before exiting below the wing. This has seen corrosion issues in some cases causing the moisture to accumulate in the fuel tank. Check these drain tubes regularly for blockage and for potential seepage into the fuel tank.
