Pressurized 337 6 seater
https://www.trade-a-plane.com/search...-type=aircraft
It says it has 6 seats, I thought the pressurized models only have 5 seats? |
First off, it has four seats in it, not six. I've spoken to the owner, at least the daughter of the owner who died. The daughter is not a pilot and knows nothing about airplanes.
The plane has been sitting out on the ramp for 15 years, and has been partially disassembled. Parts are missing and oh, by the way...THE LOGS ARE INCOMPLETE! It was washed and brought into the hangar for the photos. It is severely weather-beaten. Spoke to the shop that used to maintain it. They said no compression left in engines (that's why it quit flying). Its not clear if the cranks are VAR or not, because INCOMPLETE LOGS. She started out asking $105k, she'll be lucky to get $25k. At a minimum, you will need two new engines, a paint job, a good avionics shop to clean up the mess in the panel, and an understanding IA who will try his best to keep the annual under $30k. The airplane has not been annualed since 2005. You could easily spend another $150k on this airplane getting it into shape. Maybe Bill Crews could broker it? :p "Light Project Riley Rocket - Just annual it and fly away!" LOL |
LOL, thanks for the heads up.
Yeah the listing says it has all logs, but it seems fishy to me already. I didn't think it even had a 3rd row. 6 seats is my requirement for a 337, so I'm assuming a P model is out for me. |
FYI - You won't be flying very far in a Skymaster if you fill all six seats. You could easily be at gross with six adults and NO fuel onboard.
Make sure you take a good hard look at the useful load. Subtract your passengers and bags, ands what's left is fuel weight. You may be shocked at how little room, if any, is left for fuel. |
I'll do the math for sure. I have 4 kids. I want a plane that I can fit the whole family in. My kids are all young, no teenagers for another few months..

I get it, kids weigh less. Could be perfect for you. The back row of seats is really only good for kids anyway. I'm not sure a large man could even fit in back there. You have to crawl in through the baggage door. Just not real user-friendly.
I think of my P337H as a four seater with generous leg and baggage room, that in a pinch can be used as a five seater as long as the person in the 3rd row is not too big. No baggage door in the P, so you have to crawl over the middle row to access the rear. Middle row seats do fold flat, so its not as hard as it sounds. Also, there will be no place to store your bags. Unless of course you happen to have the belly pod, which most Skymasters do not. I also own a 310, and the same rules apply to it. If most of your legs are under two hours, its the perfect plane. If you want to go 1000 nm with 2 adults, 4 teens, and all their accoutrement, you'll need a 400-series aircraft, or a turbine. |
As a general rule, the more pax on board, the sooner you will stop than planned. All it takes is one to mention the need to pee, and they all have to.

So far no one has needed to go #2 - that would put me in a real bind! :p |

Looks like this plane is for sale (again)? I see this thread is a couple years old, but the plane is currently listed for sale. Looks like maybe it has been worked on, based on some of the comments in this thread from a couple years ago. |
As owner of an RSTOL ref 4 kids
If you can find a Robertson STOL (as is mine)
your gross takeoff weight goes up to 4700 lbs. IF you takeoff full, 128 gals, 768 lbs, and 3k empty weight, that still leaves you 932 lbs of people and stuff. WARNING - If you keep feeding your children, THEY WILL GET LARGER. Considering your options realistically: Feed all four children less. Feed some children more, and others much less. Marry a tiny woman For my family of four, and large afghan hound, and two violins, and a cello, and 50 lbs of planting baskets, and tiles to redo the beach house kitchen, and the kitchen sink (literally), was fine. But I keep 3rd row seats in basement, so can carry 365 lbs of ..whatever. Fellow I bought mine from years ago took out the 2nd row seat passegner side, to make rear seats easy to access. But that's only five. One child will have to go. |
