Tools for owning a Skymaster
 

Lots of posts ask questions about Skymaster ownership: cost, fuel burn, speed, weight, etc. However, I’ve never seen any about tools that are good to have. So I’ve decided to start this thread for posterity. Hopefully everyone will add their must have tools for owning a Skymaster.

Here’s my list of tools that pay for themselves:
1. Jacks
2. Magneto Timing kit
3. Engine Compression tester
4. 24v charger
5. Multimeter
6. Air Compressor
7. Digital protractor
8. Bench vise
9. Tensiometer
10.Electric screwdriver

Ok, please complete the list.

I think you also need to have the service manual and oil quick drain plug for front engine.

Tools
 

Five (5) jacks are needed. One under the nose behind the nose gear, two for wings (One under each wing) and two under the the booms, (one under each boom) also, not indicated on your list is a tow bar.

Hydraulics
 

Add the ATS Brake Bleeder Tank - this is so quick to bleed your brakes; and make some different connections, you can make it do other things like top up your hydraulic system quickly. I recently used mine to bleed the hydraulic pump suction and pressure lines (337A) after the lines to and from the pump were replaced with new. Trust me when I tell you (and Cessna tells you in the manual), you need to bleed the suction line if you have changed it or drained the fluid out of the line. The pump WILL NOT self prime itself, and if there is air in that line, your landing gear will not function normally...again, trust me....(I think you know what I mean...)

Drill motor to cycle the gear if you have the early model with engine driven pump. Jack points, 3/8 and 7/16 crows foot wrench for 1/4 ratchet to remove the hydraulic pump and alternators, very handy.
