Glass Avionics - Panel vs Hand-held? - This hybrid looks like a winner

My apologies if most of you are already familiar with this, and for the funky title, but Dynon's D1 Pocket Panel is a true EFIS that can be portable (mounted, for instance, on a suction cup) or installed by you (not a shop) in an empty 3-1/8” panel hole with the included “pinch” mount. Through June it's under $1300. Perfect for those (like me) still flying steam instruments or others in shock at the cost of certified glass panels.

The unit, pictured below, is 3.5" X 3.5" X 1" and comes with an array of accesories. Details, reviews and a video at http://www.dynonavionics.com/docs/D1_intro.html

For all pilots, it brings enhanced situational awareness. And it's the perfect backup instrument for those flying in IMC or at night, with over 4 hrs of battery backup on a single charge.

I have seen this unit since it was introduced last year. It is really a value item and labeled "entertainment only" can be added to the panel.

See attached Aviation review

Thanks, Herb. The Dynon page that I reference above has links to 7 reviews, including the one you cite from Aviation Consumer. I hadn't seen the "Entertainment" label, but it might be a cute way of getting around having to get FAA approval for installation on certified aircraft. In any event, aside from speeds and altitudes being GPS derived, it appears to be a bona fide glass panel -- at an incredible price.
