Transition training in the southeastern US

I know the mix of available instructors and DPEs changes as people change careers, move around, etc. If I end up buying a 337 I'll need transition training (and a CMEL upgrade). If you are, or know of, a good instructor with 337-specific knowledge, or a school that does training, please share it here.

There are a couple commercial outfits like Aviation Enterprises and RTC sims in SE US. If those aren’t your cup of tea, you can email me here and maybe we can work up a syllabus and fly in your 337 and/or mine. CFIi/MEI w/good relationship with DPE.

Skymaster transition/CMEL/recurrent training

I fly and repair my Skymaster, and provide transition/CMEL/recurrent training. Live in Nashville but will travel. MEII, A&P.

Transition training in the southeastern US

TO ALL. I personally have used Mr. Hurt and is an excellent/patient Skymaster rated CFI. I had to use another CFI after failing two checkrides with a DPE (New York). I contacted Randy and flew down to him in my '65 C337 and flew the required three hours for a checkride sign-off. Then used another DPE in Charleston, WV. Col.(retired) Bill Peters, he too was an excellent/patient check pilot, if anyone, needs one.

What's Required?

If a pilot has a ME private or commercial or ATP already, would that person need to take a checkride with a DPE to complete a 337 checkout?

I believe the answer to your question is NO. Your multi engine rating covers the C337. I believe the problem arises if your multi engine rating came with the center line limitation and then wanted to fly a conventional twin. I believe this to be accurate information. Hopefully others will add to this thread…. 😊

No, check with your insurance company for requirements
