For everyones info CPA has a tentative training session for Skymasters scheduled for April 8 thru 10 in New Orleans. This will only happen if they have enough registrations to justify the meeting.

REGISTRATION: Course registration and more details are available at: Cost: $630 members $675 non-members
http://www.cessna.org/class/courses/course_sign_up.html or call 800/343-
6416 or 805/922-2580 or contact Seminar Coordinator Glenda Gamble
mailto:glenda.gamble@cessna.org for further information.

I attended their meeting several years ago after having owned and flown N212PM for approx 15 years. I learned that I did not know nearly everything there was to know about Skymasters ---what a shock! I also saved enough dollars implementing changes they recommended to more than pay for the meeting over the next year or two.

While they may not be the final authority on all skymaster issues, this is the best place I have found in 25 years of Skymaster ownership to get an intense couse in our airplane. I still refer back to my notes occasionally when issues arise.

IF 212PM were not for sale I would be going back for a refresher and with my new list of questions (yeah - they just keep coming). I endorse and recommend this course highly if you haven't attended. I believe it will be time well spent and money saved!

Peyton!

What do you mean, 'for sale'? What's up?

KyleTownsend 01-28-05 08:47 PM

I took the course several years ago and really found it to be helpful. Also, CPA has been a great resource for me after I got the chance to meet them face to face. I highly recommend the course. I hope to go back for the New Orleans session since it is so close.

Hmmm.

New Orleans . . . in April. I'm gonna need a "good" lawyer.

Hickman, you able to make it?

Whats Up?

Jim/Jenny ...my 17 year old daughter has 40 hours towards her private and takes the written next week. Decided I needed something we could get insurance for and afford for her to fly in my lifetime.

Just bought a Cerokee Six...sooo...212PM is now officially for sale. Gonna be very hard to watch here taxi off for the last time. I've had her (or she's had me) longer than I've had my wife or daughter....27 years in October!!!

Maybe you guys will allow me to remain a Skymaster Asso member emeritus??

See you in Key West!

stackj 01-28-05 10:51 PM

Thats good and bad news. Glad to hear your daughter is progressing well. Sorry to hear you are giving up 212PM.

Jenny says the Skymaster is easier to fly than the Cherokee 6. I agree, but I guess it's really what the insurance companies say that counts.

I think that anyone who owns or has ever owned a Skymaster is eligible for lifetime membership in SOAP.

(Does this mean I have to create an engine cluster for a Cherokee?)

Keven,

I don't know any "good" lawyers. Present company excepted, of course. Currently plan on being in New Orleans on March 1 and again on March 25 so doubt I'll fly back there in April. While the meeting may be a good thing, the tuition cost would cover the gas bill to Key West and I'd rather do that if I can work out the schedule/wife thing.

Keven 01-30-05 01:42 PM

I just clicked on the link to the CPA site on this Home page concerning the seminar and didn't see the 337 April 8-10 seminar listed. Was there a change or was I looking at the wrong link?

How embarrassing. I hate it when people actually READ the site... :-)

I don't know why it is not listed Keven. I took the info from Peyton's message (except that I used a slightly different link than his). But it is not listed on Peyton's link either.

I have emailed CPA to ask about this, but meanwhile, Peyton, where did you get the info that the seminar was being scheduled?

Thanks for pointing this out Keven.

Kevin

CPA Seminar

Guys - it came from their email newsletter and has been shown in the newsletters for several months. It is noted as tentative depending upon sign up response so maybe that is why it is not listed on the site (which might also impact the number sign ups)!

Interest Level

Folks:

I was heeding Peyton's advice and was going to sign up on-line to get the numbers up to make sure it would be a "go". But, you guessed it, I couldn't because it wasn't listed. I guess we need to call CPA this week to see what the deal is and to let them know that there is a high level of interest. I think it sounds like a great program at a great location, at a great time of year. A nice warm up for Key West.

On the other hand, I may be speaking out of turn, maybe there is not a high level of interest from anyone but me.

Comments, thoughts?

I have no first-hand information, but GMAs seems to feel that it's far too much money for what you get. This is based on a comment he posted on the "other" Skymaster message board, where I was surprised to hear him say that he would rather go to the SOAPA meeting than to the CPA seminar. He went on to say "why not go with a good group of guys and gals... and walk and talk with people who know planes... like the one you fly". FWIW.

Ernie

Keven 01-30-05 05:27 PM

I don't know if GMAS has ever been to this seminar. However, everyone else I have spoken to who has attended it in the past has nothing but rave reviews for it. I have heard it gets into more depth of each of the systems than we can do in our Fly-ins because of the variety of topics we have.

My thought on it was that it would be a nice supplement, at least for me, to the type of meeting we organize.

It is a well-done seminar and was very valuable to me when I attended. The previous owner of my first Skymaster raved about it. If you have owned an 337 for a while, you may not get as much out of it but heck, it is a great excuse to meet and spend time with another group for the greatest folks around, Skymaster/O-2 owners! And I'd go to New Orleans for any excuse at all... :-)

Jim Rainer 01-30-05 10:20 PM

I attended the CPA 337 course severasl years ago and it was worth every penny of it. Tom Carr is the 337 guru at CPA and he knows the plane thoroughly and teaches well. Lots of useful tips not available from the usual sources. You'll be able to go tell your mechanic what to do. I have a conflict and can't go or I'd be there. This is the first one they've had in several years. Plan an extra couple of days in New Orleans. You'll be so busy with the seminar that you won't have much time to enjoy the city.
