TAWS Mandate
Acording to Airport Journals Magazine, the FAA has mandated that all Part 91 aircraft with 6 or more seats must have at least a Class B TAWS (Terrain Awareness and Warning System) system.
What constitutes a Class B system, and if you pull one or more seats out of the aircraft, is it still required? Since most of our Skyasters were certified as six seat aircraft, how does this effect our fleet? Thanks, Jim |
As I understand it, it is six *passenger* seats, not including crew, so the rule does not apply to Skymasters.
Anybody else know something different? Kevin |
Kevin,
You are correct. I got a call from Jenny Stack pointing out the same thing. So... No Worries! Thanks, Jim |
Furthermore, this is a turbine (not piston) requirement.

Yes,
Two important distinctions. First, it is required on TURBINE aircraft (turboprop or jet) with 6 or more passenger seats. Not required for us. Further, The required equipment is neither inexpensive nor small. Good thing. |
