warped brake disks

has anyone had to have the wheel disk machined (as in a car) to correct warping and concurve wear in the disk. brake pads do not fit flush and only part of the pads touch the rotor or diak. i think i am only getting about 50% effective braking.

Buy some new discs. They aren't very expensive.

Machining disc

Yes, not a problem as long as the finshed thickness is within specification limits. It is done all the time.

Big Al requested that I post this for him. I expect he will get on later and tell us what we are looking at...

vip parking, fast taxi for perferred curb side. actually stopped 200" past end of runway, no friggen brakes. by luck was able to steer maybe 7-10 degrees to miss the sign in background, over rocks and the stump you see stopped by lodging undereath the belly. ripper of a bottom com antenna, bent the front exhaust and the left wing tip was cracked by a tree not the the photo. i'm not in the photo just my groupies showing up for the 15mun of fame. have put the new rotors on and all is well. approch was with a 15mph cross wind which was swerilling and ended up as a tail wind on touchdown. not enough time for a go around 1600"with a 40" downhill slope (became complacient knowing i have landed many times with crappy brakes ).

Yah, but Big Al, you forgot to tell us where this all happened!!! And was that 200 inches, or 200 feet? Inches = " and Feet = ' (just to keep your story straight!)

sorry Homer
200 feet past the end of the strip. the photo is not clear but there is a road at the end of the runway & you'll see and square dark sign at the end of the pista.

Hi-oh-silver....

Say, Big Al.... ergh, I mean Hombre.... I don't have a Mexican dictionary... and excepting for the word 'Peso' I'm not exactly sure what a 'Pista' might be... but of course, I'm sure you were 'Pista-Off' at your low-level log rolling event. Was the big front prop spinning, or had you shut it down? It sure would be great to see some additional pix of the scene of the crime.

pista = runway, and you're correct i was pissed___. no, shut down both mills and gas/master off when i relized i traveld too far for a go around. the skymaster are agile in the air; however on the ground w/o brakes is like guiding a whale around the dance floor, basiclly the pig goes where it wants.

Okay

So that's entertainment!

For a fella who has likewise resigned himself to one landing . . . good, bad, or indifferert, with front prop feathered on 1/2 mile final . . . gear down, and clam shell doors stuck open . . . that's entertainment. But -- I bet you didn't have firetruck waiting on you.

Good job with what you had to work with.

Keep CLAM!

Keven,

You need to shed those clam shells doors... RT Aerospace has what you need. If you ever have one quit on you on takeoff and the clams are cycling... or worse yet... stuck in the open position, you won't need to worry about feathering. The ground cometh quickly.
