GEM HP Palm Computer
I am looking to find a working, or repairable HP Palmtop with the Insight GEM software on it. I wanted to track some trends on my rear engine. I plan to replace the engine monitor in the spring, but for now, need to download info. Anyone have any leads or ideas?
I called insight, they say they no longer have or support, so the manufacturer is no help. I have found an HPLX but no joy on the GEMCOM software, if anyone has, well that would be great. It is likely a PC-CARD that installs into the HPLX - I can copy if some has one they can share. Please let me know. |
I poked around and find it odd that there is not a copy of gemcom.exe out there.
What analyzer are you going to replace the GEM with? |
Frank,
I have the GEM software! It’s present on a memory card that plugs in to the HP 95 or HP 200. Do you have the adapter that allows you to use the memory card with your HP? Kevin |
I also have a functioning HP 95 and HP200.

See photo of the HP screen. I think this is what you need

Hp and Gem
So I would love a copy of the software. You can email me with info. Frank.oconnor19@gmail.com
I was thinking about going one of three ways. A G4. Basically nothing more then what I have, but up to date on displays and software. A jpi960. Replace all of the legacy engine monitoring systems or a garmin EIS as I have all glass for flight systems Each has a progressively larger price tag. Lol |
Do you need the functioning HP or do you have one?
|
Hplx
I had purchased one from eBay last week. It is due this week. So the short answer is maybe....I will let you know. Thanks
|
I emailed the software. Did you receive it?
|

I did not see an email from you. Please confirm the email address.
|
I will resend this evening
|
I resent. Did you receive the email?

Gemcom.exe
I did not get it. If you are sending as gemcom.exe lots of email systems will stop that. If you have a chance call me. 917-648-3839

Thanks to a little field engineering, and some luck I now have a working HPLX 200 palm computer, with a working copy of GEMCOM on a compact flash card. I was able to get it formatted so it can be read in both my windows 10 computer and the HPLX for the interface to the GEM1200. Clearly this is not a modern solution, but the data is there and with a little experimenting I found the spot where I can hold the computer to get the interface to work. There is a reason that IRa interfaces did not catch on, they are very temperamental.
In any case I was able to unload data and graph it on my computer. showed some interesting results, confirmed what I suspect is a bad wire or fouled plug in Cyl1 rear engine, I am posting screen shots of CHT, EGT for both front and rear from my last flight, would love some feedback from the group. Thanks in advance. You will notice a decline in temps and then a rise and decline towards the end of the flight. I executed a go-around as it was a new field, short runway so I did a fly over to check it out. |
Nice work recovering the data! Yeah, probably something related to a wire or plug.
Below is from Things That Effect CHT" "Failure of one spark plug or magneto can also affect CHT, because the air-fuel mixture takes longer to burn when it is ignited by only one spark plug instead of two. This causes θpp to occur later and CHT to decrease". |
