Flying in & out of unpaved strips
What procedures do you use when flying out of unpaved strips.
I do not props are too expensive. My father does For gravel strips He leads with the rear gets the aircraft rolling pulls the nose up and adds power into the front engine. Seems to work no nicks in props. Frank |
I used the same technique oprerating out of marl and gravel fields. Get the airplane rolling with full power on the rear engine then add the front engine. Never had a ding.

Yes, I learned my lesson on that last February in Mexico. Got a really bad ding on the front prop of all things! Major overhaul to fix. Now I lead with the rear until I've got about 30 indicated and then bring up the front. No problems so far and I'm able to get out of a 2,000 foot sand and coral pebble strip on an island.

good procedure, if you have the room, also if it is a very crappy field, don't run up. hold the nose up and ease into the power
|
Crappy field where I am but I've found a decent spot for the runup. And I've been paying some workers to sweep the small pebbles up for the first hundred meters.
