Odd turbo

I just bought a TSIO-360 as a spare. Showed up today with a small rayjay turbo connected to it. Ever heard of a rayjay on one of these engines?

Was the engine out of a skymaster??? There is no STC for a rayja for the skymaster. I would love to put them into my 337B. My buddy had a Viking with the rayray. You get the best of both worlds. Economy down low & speed and perfomance at altitude.

I suspect that engine came from a Mooney or Turbo Arrow. What is the full model of the engine: TSIO-360-xx where xx is a one or two letter suffix....? Should be able to figure out from that.

Comes out of a Seneca. TSIO-360 E. Too bad we can't put these small turbos on a skymaster. It's weighs in at 8lbs vs 42lbs.

If you use parts from that engine, I suggest you research the differences between a TSIO360 E and the engines you currently have in your 337, which, depending on year and whether pressurized are not, are either -Ax, -Bx, -Cx or -Hx models. The x is either blank or B to my knowledge, but I do not claim certain knowledge here. E.G. TSIO-360-CB.

If you install a -E engine in your skymaster without converting it (if it will fit, I think there will be accessory problems, and various other problems, turbo controller not same, exhaust different, etc.) your airplane will not be in compliance with the type certificate. If I recall correctly, although it is hazy, I think Seneca pistons are different than Skymasters as well. I know the operating parameters are different - different max boost for example.

Anyway, as I recall, you were thinking about trying to make your airplane experimental... And you probably know all that already, just FYI if you are interested...

I don't plan on a swap. Already have two new engines. Just bought this one to tear down and rebuild. I've got a pretty good idea what the differances are. If I were to put it on a skymaster I would have it converted to a B model.
