It’s good that you caught that. If the fluid drained out the gear would not unlock. The spring locks the gear up. And only hydraulic pressure will release it.

My 337B has the Horton STOL kit. No stall speed. Elevator runs out of authority before wing stalls (power off). Power on, nose is so high it scares you into lowering it.
