re water in oil

Peyton

This is not unusual...

1) keep temps up above 170.
2) do not start up unless you fly for 1 hr at 70% power.
3) cruise with higher power levels (above 65%).
4) Insulate the oil breather tube...

o ring

Yes........ a four dollar "o" ring. You need a mechanic to change it as it requires fluid, pump and an odd shaped schraeder valve adapter.

Should be careful when manouvering as it will fail if...

Francisco

We normally "hang out" on the north west corner of the field. Suggest you fuel up before Chicago as things get busy north and especially "Ripon" which is a VFR meeting point. Go IFR if...

re oil etc.

Richard

Perhaps the following might help. My oil stays clean for 20-25 hrs and then I change at 25-30 hrs. Plugs go for 100 hrs. Leaning is critical to maintaining clean engines.

1) lean, lean,...

re insurance

In my opinion the insurance companies are demanding recurrent training and an instrument rating as minimum for a "P". They will give you some time to get the classification completed. Not sure...

re three bladed prop

Hugh

Each application is different and each aircraft/hp responds differently.

In theory you obtain more "bite" with three blades at lower speeds. Efficiency is based on the pitch ie. 72 meaning...

vg's

Frank

I would disagree with your mechanic

"a bunch go missing it will affect the areodynamics". These are put on with superglue or epoxy. Chances of losing them are minimal. Considering the qty I...

re VG's

VG's are the way to go!

Installation is best done when repainting the aircraft. VG's have made considerable improvements on handling with other AC. It is the most ecenomical method of gaining...

VG's

Mark

Great info. The VG's make a lot of sense. I wasn't aware someone took the time and effort to plot them out! VMC rollowovers are rather non existant in the accident history files, however,...

Really depends on your mission profile. If you are using short fields most of the time -- yes there is a benefit.

If you are running full gross with normally aspirated engines at higher...

Agreed. Last winter I had a coupling start to leak on the starboard tank when the OAT was -25. I only caught it because of the stain along the trailing edge of the wing. LOST about 5-6...

re tanks filled with air.

Did you confirm the amount of fuel remaining in either the mains or the auxs ?

I think this is critical for evaluative purposes.

Secondly, do you remember how soon the second engine...

Running out of fuel is not considered an accident! Just plain stupidity....

There was someone on the board living in Calif that purchased one and let his mechanic use it. Perhaps he is willing to rent it for a few days.

You probably would get more takers on the 337 <G>. I rather doubt you will find a "taker" that owns a 337 as they are much like you....... " It fits like a glove"

I sure wouldn't trade !...

fuel flooding

Jerry

First test is to run with boost pump on low and see if this helps.

You need to go thru the fuel flow / pressure measurement / test per TCM.

My guess would be the barometric controller...
