Minor facial injuries in crash-landing

A small plane crash-landed in a field just east of the Sierra Lakes Golf Club around 10:44 a.m. Saturday. The pilot, Rialto resident Donald A. Benart, received minor facial injuries when he landed his Cessna Turbo Super Skymaster on its belly, officials said.

No passengers were on the plane.

The cause of the crash is unknown but the FAA is investigating. The plane had taken off from the Rialto airport when it lost power, FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said.

The plane was heavily damaged, and the crash caused a small fuel leak but no fire resulted. San Bernardino County and Rialto fire departments and Rialto and Fontana police responded to the incident.
