Electrical Load Analysis. Do you need one?

Hello all,

My recently imported O-2 requires an electrical load analysis to ensure that the load demanded can be supplied by the battery/alternators. This is required on all acft here iin Australia before it can be certified as airworthy or whenever new electronic equipment is intalled.

When I enquired with the US avionics company that installed the glass cockpit and other items prior to export from the US, I was told that in the US, the FAA does not require an ELA and so one was not done.

Is this correct? Do aircraft in the US not require an ELA?

Any help would be appreciated, including any references to the FARs or other regulatory documents. (URLs or locations on the net where I can find this info would be greatly appreciated).

In the meantime, the aircraft has to undergo an ELA here before it can be certified. Groan... another delay!

Thanks in advance.
