Robertson vs Horton
I do not know much about the Horton.
I believe it is just the leading edge mod?
I have a Robertson STOL T337D
Am pretty sure these are the RSTOL specs
Gross weight 4700
I believe regular gross 4200?
Does that mean 5000lb payload increase?
Leading edge mod
Wingtip fairings
Various other fairings cleanup booms / rudders
Stall fences atop wing inboard of airlierons (standard?)
1/3 flap - all flaps come out and back together
2/3 flap - more
3/3 flap - more, but ailerons actually go back up a bit
vortex generators cleanup bottom / rear drag
450 fpm single engine climb at max gross
(turbo up to 16,500 MSL)
I know the 'published' numbersd are
takeoff ground roll 395 ft
landing roll 360 ft
Of course that is on hairy edge of stall with
at or near full power
and everything screaming 'dont do this!'
I have screwed around a bit down near there. Weird.
Departing Annapolis solo one cool morning,
I know I was off the ground before the crossover,
maybe what, 400 ft from end of runway? Maybe less?
In transition training years ago, played with it at Martin State.
My (mil) instructor said, "Let's see what it can do."
Again, we were stopped before the first high speed exit ramp.
Again, less than 500 ft from touchdown.
The controllers were whistling at us.
On a BFR w instructor we were doing 45-60 banks at 55mph
when he said, "This is very strange, especially in a twin"
For what it is worth,
the gal that used to maintain my and a four other 'thrashers
noted to me in comparison w others,
mine flew notably more nose down (diff angle of incidence),
and was a 'screamer.'
One of the reasons I am reluctant to fly any other 337 is
the RSTOL perf is so ingrained in me, I'd get myself into trouble.
