Installing an S-TEC into a 336 should not be a problem. If there is a local 337 that has any type of an S-TEC autopilot installed, copy the back of their FORM 337, make the appropriate changes, and submit it to the local FSDO. The FSDO might kick it to an Aircraft Certification Office, in which case you tell them the 336 is the SAME as the 337 when the gear is down. The ACO should sign off quickly. An STC on top of the original S-TEC really shouldn't be required, even with the Phoenix FSDO.
