It is not. It's not even the $6/gallon fuel. It's the fixed cost of ownership, the monthly mortgage payment, insurance, annuals.
We priced the plane to sell, so we can get out of it.
I thought about parting it out, (I probably could get more money that way) but I want to see it gone.

Cost of ownership

Larry,
Sorry to hear that you are selling. I've been lurking here for a couple of years (just got my license in Feb.) so I know how active you are in the group.

I know the cost of ownership has been widely discussed in this forum, but would you be willing to share your most recent numbers for insurance and annuals?

Will you be flying your plane to Oshkosh? I live near Madison and I may want to take a look at it.

Thank you,
Richard Schmidt

my last insurance bill was for about $3K.
My last annual was less than $1K. It depends on parts, but I have, for several years, been able to assist, owner assisted annual, which dramatically reduces the cost of the annual inspection.

I am not flying my plane to OSH.

That's good news and bad news. I'm glad it moved easily. I'm sorry to see that you are no longer a Skymaster owner. I hope you will continue to be a member of the group. You have provided a great service for us.

Whichever way you go, I wish you great success!

It is my intention, (unless of course someone has a buring desire to become the webmaster), to continue in this role, and offer advice where ever I can.

Thanks!

Larry,
Thanks for meeting me at Oshkosh, it was a pleasure to speak with you and meet Herb and Jerry as well - please thank them for me.

Sorry I did not get to Bassler to see you off, the bus was super slow, probably due to the increased traffic after the airshow.

I did see Jerry briefly, he was waiting for his clearance, he let me know that you had already left.

Do you know of any Skymasters close to Traverse City (or at least within reasonable flying distance? I'm still hoping to get a tour of a cockpit while in MI on vacation 8/8-8/15. I'll have a C172 in Traverse City while on vacation.

Thank you again for your time,

Rich

There Was A Skymaster In Tc. Not Sure If It Sold Or Not. My Neighbors Son Is A Cfi At The Airport And I Could Hook You Up With Him Because He Might Know. Also You Can Search The Faa Site To See What Skymasters Might Be Registered Up There. The Faa Do Not Include Phone Numbers But Google Is Amazing To Track Down People.

A Friend Of Mine Was At The Tip Of The Leland Peninsula Last Saturday And Said That There Was A Skymaster On The Airport (5d5) Woolsey. Not Sure If It Is Based There Or If It Was Just Visiting. You Can Always Swing By Grand Rapids And Go For A Ride In Mine.

Herb,
I'll look around while I'm in your beautiful state, but if I don't find anything, I may call you - thank you for your generous offer, I'd be happy to help pay for fuel.

Are there any days next week that are better or worse for you?

Thanks again,

Rich

Next week I leave for Idaho on Wednesday morning, so it would have to be before Wednesday.

Counter drum altimeter

Hello Larry.
I see a counter drum altimeter installed in your panel. Can you tell me what kind it is and if there is an STC for the installation.

I don't know what kind it was.
It was an encoding altimeter, not all that uncommon. I am unaware of an STC for it, however, there was no 337 form for it.
Kollsman makes one, that is both in. hg, and millibars
http://www.kollsman.com/downloads/28007.pdf
Most people use simple altitude encoders, today.
