Electroluminescent subpanels

I've searched 'til I'm blue in the face but cannot find any reference to repairing electroluminescent subpanel lighting, although I am sure there is a thread somewhere. Anyone have suggestions where to get these panels repaired? I have a 1976 337G normal, SN33701743.

The panels are not repairable if the are broken.
Make sure there is 115 volts AC across the black and the white wires from the back of the panel, if the volts are missing the inverter is more than likely u/s.

Most of the problems that I've run across had the inverter defective. Its a black unit, mounted on the sidewall near the pilots left knee, and has th word "SCOTT" embossed on the outside. Its irregular shaped, with wires running out of it.

You did not tell us if all panels are dead or just one.

First of all check the voltage from the inverter and see if there is approximately 110 volts AC.

If voltage present then panels are shot. If there is no voltage disconnect panels and check voltage again. One panel may be drawing too much current.

There is a place in Witchita that will rebuild the panels (much brighter than before) or they will make all new panels for you.

You may want to consider putting a strip light along underneath the main panel overlay and illuminate that way.

The EL panels were a problem and probably less than 50% work now.


I will look up the name of the company if you are unable to get your running.

BTW I had same problem with my panels and had to replace the power supply. You can actually test the panels using house hold current.

Thanks folks! I'll do some checking first. I just assumed the panels were at fault but it may be the power supply. I'm sure both panels are out. I like the idea of strip lighting even over the instrument panell itself.
