Engine heaters for 337
Does anyone have experience with either EZ or Tanis engine heaters the IO360 engine in a 337?
Do the heating pads remain attached over time? Re Tanis, do the heated bolts work well to warm the upper engine? Thanks, Gordon |

have ez heat pads glued on the oil pan, never have come off. in fact when i replaced engines they are hard to remove; but being careful not to damage them we were able to reuse them

![]() heaters on my bird. They have been on over ten years with minimal problems. Broken wire, a failed cylinder heat probe or so. I am not sure what you mean by heated bolts. I have (1) or (2) heat pads on upper case, (1) on oil pan and (5) cylinder heat probes which share with JPI for cylinder temps. I put an old quilt or blanket over the engines in the hangar and it keeps her toasty warm. I might get (2) of those fancy covers to take with me on the road . I used one up in northern Maine and it kept the engines warm for several hours. Not sure if I missed anything. Guy the old 72 driver....

JUST HAD THE TANIS SYSTEM INSTALLED LAST MONTH
FIRST HEATERS I HAVE HAD ON MY 68 337C SO FAR I AM VERY PLEASE I HAVE ONE PAD ON BOTTOM AND ONE ON TOP ONE PROBE IN EACH 5 CYLINDERS (EXCEPT ONE WITH EGT) I AM HAVING BUILT A REMOTE ON / OFF SWITCH SO THAT I CAN ACTIVATE BY PAGER / PHONE CALL IT IS ADVISED THAT THEY SHOULD NOT STAY ON ALL THE TIME IF YOU DO HEAT THEM UP YOU SHOULD FLY AT LEAST ONE HOUR BEFORE UNPLUGGING COULD BE A GOOD EXCUSE WHEN THE OTHERS GET OLD |

I have the Rieff (I think that's how you spell it) system. Has pads that go around every cylinder and heating units on the pan with a thermo-switch on the upper case. Warms your engine oil up to 100 and heads up to about 80. Works very well.
Takes about 3-4 hours. Last edited by Richard : 12-09-03 at 11:53 PM. |

Reiff?
Richard,
Do these stay on the cylinders year round? Does it interfere with cooling? |

Larry. Stays on all the time. Don't see how it would take away from any cooling.

Ah, way cool. Thanks Herb, and Richard. I have pads top and bottom on my engines, this Reif looks interesting.
