mag overhaul and cowl flap motor overhaul

Part 1:
OK, left mag check big fail on rear engine, so pulled both mags yesterday. Plane is in Van Nuys, so local a&p recommended Aero Accessories of Van Nuys for overhaul. Thought I would ping group to see if they have other recommendations and/or idea of cost for overhauling the Bendix mags on my TSIO-360

Part 2:
Rear cowl flaps stopped working, cracked open about 2 inches...so flyable that way, but not desireable....a&p tapped the motor lightly with a hammer and they started working for a flight, he says it is likely a worn brush. But now back to same. I guess I could crawl out mid-flight and tap the casing with a hammer, but thinking it is time to pull it off. Rather than the expensive replacement, thought I would chek to see if others have used any shops to IRAN or overhaul theirs....and again, expected costs.

Just replaced both mains with FC3, overhauled AI, and had to replace front spinner and bulkhead...all within last month...so trying to find best reduced cost (but still safe) options for these new issues....plus annual coming up

Mag ER does a good job on Bendix and good cost

Cowl flap motor probably needs some cleaning. Not sure on brushes but have an A&P open it up and clean up and re-grease

We have had to clean the brushes, etc. on our front cowl motor a couple of times over the years (just engine oil/schmoo that worked its way inside), but had a similar problem to yours with our rear cowl motor that turned out to be a frayed power supply wire -- nothing wrong internally. Sure, it could be worn brushes, etc, but it is worthwhile to check continuity of wiring before yanking out the motor.

mags and cowl flap motor update

cowl flap motor was wire..thanks for advice.

mag update: got them overhauled, and it ws pricey, but they did them quick.

New related issue: ignition wiring harness apprently has a bad wire and he recommends replacement...problem is figuring out replacement. number on current one is M2020RH....and the mags say S6LSC-25T, or BL-500556-203...nieth option for mag numbers correspeonds to any application chart I can find for the TSIO-360Ab engine 9with 5/8/H plugs size)....anyone had to do this and have any insights....the number on the charts is coming up to 2015, not 2020....thoughts?
