Oil Dilution System ?
When flipping my parts manual, I have occasionally run across something called the oil dilution system. It's a little confusing in my manual, but it does not appear that my model of Skymaster has one. Nonetheless, I was very curious as to what this thing does and was unable to find any mention of it in the Service Manual or in the Continental overhaul manual. Can anyone out there enlighten me?

I believe the oil dilution system was an option that allowed you to pump gas into the crankcase in order to thin out the oil. This was done for aircraft operating in very cold climates, and the purpose was to get the cold oil thin enough to allow the engine to turn over during starting. Mark

Mark is correct. It was an option in 1968, my vintage, and the POH describes it as Mark has explained. I have a spot labeled on my rocker panel for the switch but my craft did not have the option. I have never heard anyone talk about using this option or if it was available on other Cessna models. I assume the fuel is eventually vaporized in the crankcase?
