Crankshaft Seal Sealant
What is the proper sealant to use during installation of the crankshaft seal for a TSIO-360CB?
My overhaul manual is not helpful. A Continental Service Bulletin is only marginally more helpful, stating only "Apply a thin coat of Permatex to the O.D. of the seal." Great, but Permatex has a bunch of products. I did a search here for 'proper sealant to use on crankshaft seal' and got: 'The search term you specified (for) is under the minimum word length (4) and therefore will not be found.' I admit, it's been a while since I learned how to count, but I'm pretty sure that's more than four words. I get that reply a lot. A search of the Web shows people using Titeseal and Dow 717. Some people say use a non-hardening sealant some say use a hardening sealant. I just want to use the proper sealant and not experiment. |

Sorry, I don't have an answer to your question, but do have a search tip. The best way I've found to search SOAPA is by using Google with a "site" filter. Prefix your search with "site:www.337skymaster.com" then add the search words.
Ex: "site:www.337skymaster.com crankshaft seal" Downside of this method is the index seems to be about 6 months behind. Last edited by GearUp : 01-25-23 at 01:28 PM. |

Thanks, Kim. The Aviation #2 sounds pretty official, and even Wally World carries it.

The Continental M-0 repair manual has all the info on procedure and sealants to use, on the road and from memory…
Clean bore well with MEK, there is a spray primer that is applied, then the purple case half sealant goes on the bore, then the permatex brown liquid on the seal and install. When I can I will get the actual numbers of the items. |
