Rudder Pedal Brackets
For those of you that have pre 73 Skymasters, I suggest that you inspect the rudder pedal assembly brackets for cracks. I have heard from a very knowledgeable Skymaster mechanic that this is very common in the older Skymasters. From what I can tell the new design (1973 and on) have a beefier bracket as Cessna knew that these brackets were cracking.
See attached the SID document that addresses this potential issue and I have attached a couple photos to use as reference for inspecting your aircraft. I have found two aircraft that have cracked brackets and both have been repaired. There are new brackets available (the newer style) but are very pricey. Would or could this ever be a potentially catastrophic rudder pedal failure? I think it is doubtful, as for my plane they could have been cracked for how long???? Many years. I wanted to bring this to everyone's attention because I have inspected my plane many times and never saw this issue until recently. That's when I went back to the list of SID's and found where Cessna had addressed this potential problem. Feel free to PM me about any questions you might have.
