That question has been essentially answered in this forum before. Just click on "Search" at the top of this page and then enter "wing span" on the next page. You will find about 10 threads that deal with the subject.

Enrie,
I read the threads---If anyone has given the name of someone that can do the inspection please point it out to me. Otherwise every one says they have done one if they need it but they don't share the source of the inspection. Sure would be nice if they left a name and number. I think they are pencil whipping these inspections. Please prove me wrong. thanks, Ed Coffman ________ Weed vaporizer Last edited by Ed Coffman : 02-18-11 at 09:05 AM. |

mine was done by travelling NDT service out of AZO, at annual 2 years ago. Don't remember the name, I'll look it up tomorrow night. Your mech should know the name of a good local company. They do more than Skymasters, the procedure is spelled out in the AD. It straight forward, you just want it to pass, because a failure means replacing the wing.
It cost about $400. Done at Marshall Aviation. The mech there, Eric Metzger, works on my plane and Gerry DeSantis's plane. Knows his stuff. Last edited by WebMaster : 11-13-05 at 10:59 PM. |

Doesn't Don Nieser do them? I know he is listed under Parts Sources, but he also rebuilds O2's and Skymasters. He demo'd the spar area and showed us the inspection requirements when we had the Skymaster meeting in Oklahoma.

I clicked on "Search" near the top of this page, put "Nieser" and "phone" in the box, and the first thread shown had his numbers: 405-722-4079 and 405-503-4686 cell.

The inspection is actually a two part inspection. There is the dye-penetrant inspection, which your AI should be able to do, following the AD. It requires that the upper surface of the wing be removed. The fuel tank does not have to be removed.
The second part is the actual EDDY CURRENT inspection. Mine was done by Aircraft NDT Service, Inc, 6395 Technology Drive, Suite C, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. Their phone number is 269-353-3916 (it says on the bill) |

5K AD specifics
For the archives:
5,000 hour 337 AD; 78-09-05 Carrollton, GA, Sammy, Aircraft Services, Inc. 3-4 days, must be done there. $1200, unless the fuel tank tops are bad, then worst case is about $2,000. |

I can add an endorsement for Sammy in Carrollton. I doubt if there is a more knowledgable Skymaster IA around anywhere.

I don't think I am hard to find. Yes we have done the wing spar AD inspection on about 12 aircraft both 337's and 0-2's. We remove the top wing skins over the fuel tanks and remove the aux tanks and at least the inboard main tanks to get proper access to do the inspections. We hire specialized Non-destructive Inspection specialty companies to do the Eddy Current part of the inspection. You can contact me any of the ways below:
