Tachometer Magnetic Pickup Needed
I’m pretty sure the pickup on my front engine is bad. I’ve swapped tach leads to check the gauge and checked the wiring. Any ideas on where to find a replacement, besides Continental? They want about $1k.
Also, any suggestions on how to replace it? Remove the starter to get access? I can barely see it, let alone reach it. |

Tach Pickup
OhioSkymaster,
Removal of vacuum pump makes it much easier to access the front Tach pickup. Regarding sources - check with Don Nieser. Jeff |

The front tach indication was intermittent, then failed altogether. I swapped the front and rear engine magnetic pickup connections to the tach gauge and proved that the fault was not in the gauge. I verified wiring and connections to the front magnetic pickup were good, then removed the pickup from the magneto. It reads as an open circuit on a DMM. I measured the rear-engine pickup and it does measure a resistance, though I don't recall the value at the moment. I have not been able to locate any specs on the part, beyond the old and replacement part numbers.

Can you post a picture of this pickup? I might have an extra.

I had the same problem. Took mine out and replaced with the aerospace logic digital gauge. Its awesome. Would do it again in a heartbeat.
