Windshield
Hey guys. Any recommendations on where to find a nice new or used on? For a '71 F model. '65-'71 should fit.

I have the original I took out of my 68. I am not sure why anyone would use a used one based on the work involved to install. It really doesn't make sense to take all the time to put in a used one, to me anyway. If you are interested I would sell it cheap. Freight would be the biggest expense.
For a new one I would buy from Great Lakes Aero Products. They are a great bunch to work with and have quality products. They supply most of the OEM's out there. They offer tint and solar control treatments too.

Windshield
Hi Herb. Was thinking of maybe a nice clean used one because I thought a new one would be (typically) ridiculously expensive. Not so. Thanks for the lead with Great Lakes. Looking at it though, it seems the real monster is going to be the removal and installation... Jim

It can be Jim but I happen to get by pretty smooth with mine. I have heard some real stories about the process and I guess it can be a bear. It's worth it though and make sure you use ProSeal not silicon for the seal.
Search windshield on this forum for some info from me and others about it.

Windscreen Sealant
Hi Herb
Reading your reference to pro seal, can you give me some more info please. My screen is in excellent condition so I did not need to replace it during this part of the refurb, however I did remove all screws prior to painting. When I talk about refitting new screws and what sealant to use, I keep getting referred to silicone sealers. Now what was around the old screws was a white tacky material. Screen and side windows were replaced 250 hrs ago (10 years). Going to see Don next Saturday (in the states for a week) for some spares, he might also be able to help with this one. Been a while since I uploaded a photo, attached is the most recent I have. Last edited by SkyMac : 10-21-12 at 02:51 PM. |
