Main landing gear actuator

Just found out that my MLG actuator is leaking around the front o-rings. Any suggestions where to get it rebuilt? Also, does anyone else have two hydraulic pumps on their aircraft? I was surprised to find out that my back motor has a pump as well (it's a '69 D model).

The actuators are really straight forward to rebuild. If you have a shop that you work with and is familiar with Cessna hydraulics they should have no problem re-sealing the actuators. Having said that, removing the actuator is the challenge. Follow the SM but be prepared for some knuckle cracking (no pun intended).

The optional gear pump was not a standard item. If you got one then it's a bonus. I would say that less than 1/3 of Skymasters have them.

Herb,
I haven't used anyone yet. Any suggestions?
Really aggravating right now because this should have been found in Jan or Feb, but wasn't because I didn't get started on the annual until a month ago, due to lack of heat in my hangar. The guys didn't get the heat going until it turned 70 outside. Nice, huh? Anyway, I'll get her fixed soon and hopefully get up your direction.
Thanks,
Fred

Fred

Griswold Aviation in Marshall does a lot of business on Skymasters here in Michigan and Ohio. It's a tough job but I am sure it can happen. Let me know.

Actuators

Just had my Actuators and power pack overhauled by Cox Airparts in Wichita, did a great job!

Ernie Martin is an unknown quantity at this point
Do you recall what they charge you for the power pack?

I don't, but I recall it stung a bit. I'll pull the receipt on Monday. I had an issue with getting the gear down and decided it was time to overhaul everything....cheaper than a gear up.

Overhauling the power pack with new solenoids was $7750. Redoing a good actuator was $800, and redoing a bad actuator $2800. One of my mains had a crack in the housing. If you have not had the pleasure of spending an hour and a half getting your gear down and don't want it, I would recommend getting it done. Mine is a 73 model and had never been done.
