Increase GW?
Is there any way to increase gross weight capability with the kits available? I.e., with Horton, Robertson, or Microdynamics? (Microdynamics says "no" that there is no GW increase.) Or any other kits, like cargo pods, gear door removal kits, etc.?

Consider this. How much does your airplane weigh when you pull 2g's? Answer: twice as much as it's own gross weight.
Therefore, the FAA allows airplanes to fly over their gross weight for ferry flights with a ferry tank installed. Why! Because the airplanes are designed to be flown over their gross weight. But. And this is a big but. Flying is limited to 1g. So it has to be a no turbulance day...until you burn off enough fuel to be below the certified gross weight. So, how does adding wing tips increase max gross weight? Does it require a new spare? No, it doesn't. So, the airplane was designed for weights above gross. But you just have to take it easy when you do. |

I believe the GW limit is dictated by the original gear drop tests. There are a variey of things you can do to the PushPull (for you Bahamain's) that will increase the load carrying capacity, however if the gear can't take the hit on landing, you can't increase the gross weight. There is a formula that the FAA uses that allows a plane to have a higher takeoff weight than landing weight (something like +5%) that can not be exceeded, without drop testing (and smashing) aricraft gear at a higher gross weight with mods.
For example my H has a takeoff weight of: 4630 and a landing weight of: 4400. The difference is: 4.967% of takeoff weight. So even though my micro VG's could very easily add 200+ Lbs to my GW capacity, the FAA will not allow the increase due to the gear limitation. |

ask owen bell for his 2cents. he incorporates a fuel dump so you can achieve much higher gross wt. if you need to land before you burn off fuel, just dump
it. |

I did talk to Owen. He said for my model his wing extensions would add 400 lbs. (making the GW 4700 instead of the 4300 original). So that's worthing thinking about.

MT, are manufacturers of wood / composite props. Very popular in sport, kit and aerobatic aircraft. My 3 blade props are 60 lbs lighter than the original McCauleys. Therefore, the increase in useful load. The other advantages; climb performance increase, quiter, smoother, 6 year TBO and they look really cool.

I think you may be overstating the weight differences between the McCauley's and the MT's?
