Low time insurance
Tom,
Spoke to Steve Neely who suggested I get a conventional twin rating which seems unnecessary to me. Did you get a conventional ME rating? If you don't get a conventional ME, what is entailed for a CLT? Did you get that in your 0-2? Thanks for taking the time to instruct me! Hugh |

Hugh,
I have a multi rating with CLT limitaion. I hope to remove the CLT soon so I can fly a B-25!!!!. Took all training and checkride in the O2-A The check flight was similar to a conventional twin, we did engine out, prop feathering and simulated single engine appraoches. Only critical engine and Vmc was not covered as that is not an issue for us. Tom |

CLT Rating
If your intention is to always fly CLT aircraft, the CLT rating is okay. The problem with only a CLT rating is, if in the future you decide to fly conventional twins, the insurance company will not recognize CLT as multi time and thus you have no multi experience.
It works this way. With a conventional twin rating, when you fly a Skymaster, you get to log the time as multi experience. However, if you have only a CLT rating, you must log time as CLT not multi. Yes! I know it does not seems right, but that's the way it is. So what you have to do is think about what you want to fly in the future -------insurance wise. Cheers Jerry N34EC |

The twin rating is not hard to get - it only takes something like 12 hours. I'm not sure how much of that you actually cut out by going for the CLT only rating.
Even if you plan to fly only CLT, you'll appreciate it much more having learned in a conventional twin. |

I agree
I agree with Kevin, you'll never appreciate how much safer a 337 is until you feather an engine on a SBS twin.
As Jerry said, there are advantages if you want to fly something else later. The time and effort to get a SBS rating is not significantly more than a CLT rating. |

I had to think with my wallet. Why pay for an airplane and then rent someone elses, esp. with an hour limitation from insurance. I have 60 hours in the O2 now and I hope to put some money back to get the CLT limitation removed
