It is true. Look it up on the NTSB websight.
NTSB Identification: ANC97LA029 Accident occurred FEB-25-97 at GOLOVIN, AK There is another one where a 337 ricoches off the water (gulf) and makes it back to Miami with TWO BENT props, bent gear doors (torn off) and bent bottom panels.
