POH Oil Quantities

Why does my '73 337G POH state engine oil quanitites as 10 quarts, my dipsick shows a maximum of 8 quarts and the 337H POH state 8 quarts, needless to say I run a maximum of 7 to 8 quarts depending on length of trips (typically 4 to 12 hours)

This 2 quart discrepency seems very strange even considering things like external filters etc...etc
