PAI 700 Vertical card compass FAA form 337
Herb.
The TSO is just the document for the part to be allowed to be installed into an airplane. BUT it doesn't approve for the actual install, ie, Form 337 approved data. I ran into this problem on my C172 when I installed a TSO'd electric tach, the local FSDO would not allow the install without approved documentation, ie, Field approval through a designated maintenance engineer. Or a Form 337. BILLS Last edited by cessnadriver : 10-12-17 at 07:57 PM. Reason: forgot information |

Compass is required equipment per TC - but any approve compass should meet that requirement. I would not see a need for a "Major Alteration" 337 form.
A&P, log book entry, equipment list modification, and reference to W&B (likely no wt chg) W&B & Equip list should be current and in the Aircraft. Oh, and don't forget Compass Correction Card

![]() From my first helicopter onwards.
But these days, with redundant GPS on board, which always display compass headings, less critical.
