McCauley governor model for '69 with a c6b?
The Woodward on the front just sheared itself to sprinkles so I'm trying to figure out where to go next. When I looked at the McCauley application guide (as a novice) I saw several governor numbers listed and didn't know where to go with that info.
Also wondering if it's worth it to find a used core for sale, and if it needs to be the same model, or if any Macaulay constant speed (or at least for any year of 337) would suffice as a core. Thanks. |

Thanks Frank.
So my IA ordered a brand new one today from McCauley (or whatever their approved distributor is) for $4300. So where is everyone getting their replacement, McCauley governors from these days? I see QAA has them for 1350 + 1k core, but my IA was nervous about using an overhauled part. |

QAA is fine. And I would look for a new IA. He just cost you an extra 2K

Yes, ditto what Kim said about the extra $2K!

Thanks all for the replies. Interesting thing, when I called Quality Aircraft Accessories they were completely out of stock on anything. They told me to give Aircraft Accessories of Oklahoma a ring which I did. They said they could put together either a Woodward or a Mccauley. I thought this was interesting because all of the indications from all the shop talkers in my world were that Woodwards are no good and you can't rebuild them anyway because there are no more parts. Well this guy says he thinks they're a better governor and he doesn't know understand why people think they can't be rebuilt.
Well in any case, does anybody have any experience with aircraft accessories of oklahoma? |

I've heard over the decades that Woodward governors are better, and that's from governor overhaul people. To what degree they are better was not stated, however, so I wouldn't spend a bunch of money to switch from McCauley to Woodward. On the the other hand, if I had a Woodward that needed to be overhauled, I wouldn't switch as long as parts were available for it. I've had very good luck with Aircraft Accessories, so I don't hesitate to recommend them. |

This is confidence inspiring. Thanks.
For posterity:
There is also a newer Woodward that supercedes 210443 for a little bit more. AAO and a few other sources opined that Woodwards are a little better than the Mccauley units, but didn't elaborate on how. I went with the 210443. |

5 of our Skymasters had McCauleys 1 had Woodward on it. We had to overhaul the McCauleys every 5 years. Woodward were overhauled at engine TBO.
