H & S
As a follow up, H&S did my governor overhaul in March and it came in at $1100 which is right about what they told me it would be (mine is a Woodward). However, I was also told about a week turnaround time but in reality it was a month. So I think they are pretty good on the pricing, but the timing ends up being longer than anticipated. They do all my propeller work and I will continue to use them as they have always done a fine job.
During my engine rebuild, NO ONE has been even close to meeting the schedule they originally noted, so H&S isnt any different than anyone else out there in the aviation arena. I just think that is the way it goes and we have to expect delays in lead-times. |

propeller governors
I sent mine to a Prop shop in California, but can't remember the their name. I can check my logs tomorrow, if needed. They charged $1500 and $1700 due to extra parts required. The governors are the accumulator type. I also sent them my non-accumulator type I think the price was about the same. Return around was about a week.

2024 update
I sent my front engine's McCauley DFCS310D4/T5 prop governor to H&S Propeller in Michigan for overhaul. My symptoms included cruise-flight erratic RPM hunting +/- 50-150 RPM.
Timeline: 12/20: gov arrived H&S, via UPS 1/24: advised ready, just needs final testing, invoice paid. 1/29: test machine inop, H&S sent gov to "West Coast Governor Service" in California for testing on their dime. 2/7: CA shop drop-shipped to me 2/11: governor received, with 8130-3 and new gasket! H&S proved to be excellent to work with. Bryan runs his shop with integrity and with a commitment to saving the customer as many $AMUs as he can, and they have a good customer service attitude. My gov was nearly trash. Apparently, it hadn't been serviced since either new in 1977 (almost 3500 hrs on it) or 1999 (almost 2000 hrs on it) depending on how you interpret the chicken scratch in the logbooks. It needed some parts, and Bryan sold me some used, serviceable parts he had on hand, and had to buy some new. He also quoted me a replacement at 4.8 AMUs (or new from Mcauley at double that), but he was able to find the parts he needed so I went with the overhaul. Overall, I'm pleased with H&S and can recommend them if you need your governor overhauled. AMUs expended: 2, broken out like this: Overhaul labor .6 Overhaul kit .5 Worm Gear .3 Flyweights .4 Misc/shipping: .2 -LJ |

Exact same experience about a year and a half ago. Great folks to work with, very fair on costs.
