Give Matt at MaxQ Composits a call. 207.408.4965 or email matt@maxqcomposites.com. He works on them for a very reasonable price and has an alternate motor (not FAA approved) as well. I have used him 2 times with great results. There have been postings about him and by him on this site in the past as well.

Dan, the cowl flap motor is a simple DC motor. If you search this site, you'll find resources to have them rebuilt very inexpensively, albeit not via an FAA repair station.
I think it would be foolish for a Skymaster owner to pay the outrageous prices that are being asked for certified cowl flap motors. To me, its not a safety-critical part, so I'm happy to save $1500+ and have it repaired by a local DC motor shop. Search for "alternator repair" near you if you don't find a "DC motor repair". Lots of times they fix dc motors as well. Same equipment required. YMMV. Last edited by mshac : 01-25-24 at 06:55 PM. |
