Decision made, proceeding apace.

All Avidyne, one mfr, no finger pointing, "That's the other guy's problem"

I like their 'open' platform, simpler, more intuitive I/O.

Lower annual cost for dbase subscriptions.

Ifd 100 10.2

Don't forget the IFD 100 ipad software to allow the pad to run all functions of the IFD540/440 platforms. Simply the best system out there for my money, plug and play for the 540/440. A gps wass position connection for the 340 makes it easiest installation and least costly option out there. Good choice, Joe

Clean install

While initially thinking just to replace my "Ye Olde GPS moving map"
(no longer made, supported, or reliable),

I realized a completely clean install could

greatly simplify installation
be built and tested 'on the bench' (which it was)
not lose days/weeks(months?) trying to retrofit into various layers of 1990s harnesses,
assure 100% compatibility between everything,
make it all much simpler and more reliable going forward
eliminate the next thing that was going to fail or lose support

For example, my $5k installed L3 NGT2500 already no longer made or supported.
KX155 parts becoming scare/gone
KN62 parts also becoming scarce/gone

Looking at even the 'modern' point-to-point wiring,
I predict in 20 years

avionics will be boxes with
Power connector in
Ethernet cable to central avionics hub
Configure and communicate w IP protocols
RF antennas as needed
Update dbases by cell/wifi/satcomm - maybe position driven?

But first, a LOT of FAA dinosaurs and ancient standards will have to settle into the tarpits.
