Cure for leaky avionics bay cover

In case anyone has a little drool coming around their avionics bay,
which manifests by dampness on top of the floor heater outlet after heavy rains,
here's what I've done (a bit 'OCD') to make it dry as a submarine in drydock:

1. Remove the cover (obviously)

2. Thin silicone seal where the external sheet metal meets the bay framing.
Once you've made the thing totally dry, it will pool.
This keeps moisture from wicking in between the frame and sheet metal

3. Install 'harry homeowner' SOLID foam seal along 1/2 gap, where cover edge will rest.

4. Use plumbers grease to slicken top of foam core seal to assure 100% seal

5. Use plumbers grease under air lock fittings (100% blocks wicking around fittings)


MIL SPEC hardware actually has the airlock fittings in stainless steel. Model 130 I believe.
After buying airlocks that were both too long, and too short, or CAD plated vs stainless,
I have beome more expert than I ever desired.

You will be a much happier person if you buy the tool.

3M 8672 tape will work great for a temporary fix. I use this tape on several areas on the airframe. It bond super good, conforms really well, seals and does not leave any residue when removed. I keep a roll in the plane at all times. Once you try it you will see why.
