Fuel cells/tanks

What kinds of problems are you owners encountering with full cells? I was wormed by one I.A. about them but not sure if its a common thing or not. We went and looked at a 1983 337 last weekend and the fuel tanks were recently replaced. The tanks themselves were $21000 for both wings not including installation. That would be a pretty big hit.

Skymasters were not built in 1983, 1980 was the last year. Could be a Riley conversion as some of those may be referred to as when the conversion was done but none were zero timed.

Fuel tanks are aluminum and very rare to be replaced. Not like bladders or wet wing. Maybe corrosion issue would warrant replacement. Don't think you will find much on the site here that refers to replacing fuel tanks. Is this the same IA that told you the pressure system is a red flag? Just curious because you seem to be getting some bad info.

Sorry I meant 1973. Different person, when I was looking at the 1973 337 the owner told me about the fuel tanks replacements. We didn't go into detail but he did say he wouldn't recommend the guy he bought them from and the price was $21000. He already had mechanics that worked for his business so they installed them. I would definitely get more details before I considered buying it.
