LOP/ROP Operation....

I have my Insight G4 system installed, it's been on there for about a week. Now that I can see what's going on, I really want to start exploring optimization of ROP/LOP Operations. I have a 73 T337G-P with low time.

For ROP I started by figuring out the EGT temp that each cylinder peaks at. Once that's done, I either richen the cylinders so they are all at least 50 degrees cooler than peak (some are 100+), or lean them to the same minimum of 50 degrees.

Is this what everyone else is doing? What are the critical temperatures that you want to keep TIT EGT, and CHT under? What are you doing for climbs?

Here is the place to start

Also, I would suggest that you go to AVWeb and read Pelican Pearch

I like the Mike Busch article in the Sport Aviation the best. It really simplifies the whole LOP operation. This is the technique I have been using

I agree with Herb. Read everything Mike Busch and read Pelican's Perch on AvWeb. You will get so many opinions on this topic it will blow your mind. I am a "science and math" guy myself. That is to say I want to understand the science behind the information that people are telling me. John Deakin (Pelican's Perch), and Mike Busch do this very well. I'm sure there are others but these are the best I have found in my little opinion. In the short term until you get a chance to LEARN all the information that these guys are providing, keep your cylinder head temps at or below 380 F.

Enjoy!

Ed

Walter Atkinson is an unknown quantity at this point
Regarding the Mike Busch article referenced above. Essentially everything in that article, Mike got from us at APS... with one exception. He does not use EGT as a leaning reference. This is, in our data-backed opinion, a misguided concept. Using CHT as a leaning reference has multiple pitfalls and we think that using EGT to reference mixture in or out of the Red Box is a much better, more scientifically based concept.

I do appreciate that Mike referenced us as where he learned the science and the concepts he is teaching.
